General Booking Terms and Conditions

We are delighted to be welcoming you to Oxford Castle & Prison.

Anyone visiting Oxford Castle & Prison does so subject to the following terms and conditions.

Please read our terms and conditions carefully before booking your tour.

Payment

All tickets are non-refundable. Full pre-payment must be made for all people visiting Oxford Castle & Prison.

Flexi Tickets

You can change the date and time of your booking up to 6 hours before your tour time by going to change my booking. Up to 2 free changes per ticket. The transfer of your booking is subject to availability and cannot be used for any special events or products from our shop. You can reschedule your visit to a date within the next 12 months.

Standard Tickets

You can change the date and time of your booking up to 6 hours before your tour time for an additional rebooking fee per booking by visiting change my booking. The transfer of your booking is subject to availability and cannot be used for any special events or products from our shop. You can reschedule your visit to a date within the next 12 months. Please note, all tickets booked using a discount code are non-transferrable.

Cancellation

Standard fees for cancellation are 100% of the booking. To notify us of potential cancellation of your booking, please contact us.

Discounts

We are unable to apply multiple discounts to a single ticket, and you will be charged only the ticket price with the largest discount applied. Note this also applies to early booking discounts.

Resident Discount
  • Anyone living in the RG9 or OX postcode area is eligible to receive a 30% discount off Standard Admission General Tour Ticket across January 2025.
  •  This discount cannot be claimed in conjunction with any other offer or promotional ticket and is not valid against the online advanced ticket rate.
  •  The operators reserve the right to restrict or refuse discounted admission on special event days.
  • Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
  • To receive your resident’s discount, you must provide the following two proofs of residency at the point of purchase. Identification in the form of:
  • photo ID with address or.
  • a utility bill/authorised letter with a name and address on it.
  • Discounts will be available to the claimant and his/her family living within the same house up to six people.
  • The claimant must be present on the visit.
  • If you have booked a visit online with the Oxfordshire Resident Discount rate but are unable to comply with any of these terms and conditions on the day, including not having relevant ID, you will be asked to pay the outstanding balance at our full walk-up rate and will not be permitted entry without full payment.
 Friends 15% Discount
  • A 15% discount on standard guided tour tickets using code FRIENDS15 is valid until 23:59 on January 31, 2025.
  • The discount is applicable only to general guided tours available between 00:01 on 20 December 2024 and 00:01 on March 1, 2025.
  • The discount cannot be combined with any other offers, experiences, events, or promotional tickets. It does not apply to online advanced ticket rates.
  • The offer is valid for online booking only.
  • The discount is not applicable to existing bookings.
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • The claimant must be present during the visit.
  • If you booked using the Friends 15% discount and cannot comply with the terms on the day of your visit, you will need to pay the remaining balance at the full walk-up rate. Entry will not be allowed without full payment.
  • The operator reserves the right to cancel or amend the promotion or its terms and conditions due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control, such as fraud, abuse, or human or computer error. Efforts will be made to minimize any impact on participants to avoid undue dissatisfaction.

Children

Children are welcome to visit Oxford Castle & Prison. Children under 5 years of age are not permitted access to St George’s Tower due to health and safety regulations. A parent or guardian will need to wait at the base of the tower with them. Once the tour group returns from the Tower, you are then able to rejoin your group as the tour continues.

Arrival / Late arrival

We ask all visitors to arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled tour start time. Oxford Castle & Prison retains absolute discretion as to whether visitors arriving late for their tour time will be allowed entry. Late-arriving visitors will be charged for their tour. Standard fees for late arrival are 100% of the booking.

No-shows

Standard fees for no-shows are 100% of the booking.

Private Tours

If you would like to book a private tour, please contact us.

Personal Belongings

Due to the historical nature of the building, prams & pushchairs do not fit through the doors. We request therefore that you leave them in the designated area in the Gift Shop. Suitcases and large rucksacks can not be taken on the tour and these can be left in one of our lockers, located within the gift shop. Lockers are charged at £1 which is non-refundable. Personal belongings must under no circumstance be left in public areas. We reserve the right to remove any personal belongings left on site.

Photography

Please be advised photography is permitted at Oxford Castle & Prison and we invite you to share your photos with us by tagging Oxford Castle &  Prison.

Extras

All extras have to be redeemed on the day of the visit. Extras are non-refundable.

Oxford Castle & Prison reserves the right to refuse entry onto a tour or remove any person who:

  • Arrives late for their tour
  • Is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Behaves in a manner which compromises the safety and enjoyment of our team or visitors
  • Uses verbal or physical threats or insults towards any member of the team or any other visitor
  • Does not respect the historic nature of the building
