This January, we are welcoming you back to your castle.

We’re offering Oxfordshire residents 30% off our standard tour ticket price over January to visit Oxford’s very own castle.

For nearly 1000 years, Oxford Castle & Prison has stood watch over the dreaming spires, and the story of the castle and prison is interwoven with the city and its residents.

Join our costumed tour guides as we explore the historic buildings that have witnessed events throughout the decades. Hear tales of a daring medieval escape from St George’s Tower, descend to the crypt to learn Oxford’s connection to King Arthur, and discover the changing role of crime and punishment from the Civil War through to Victorian times and the prison’s closure in 1996.

  • Climb the 101 steps of St. George’s Tower and enjoy the panoramic views of Oxford.
  • Descend into the candle-lit crypt and learn about the Castle’s connection with the legend of King Arthur.
  • Explore 18th Century prison cells, home to poisoners, miscreants and desperate criminals.
  • Follow the story of the Castle & Prison right up to its closure in 1996.

How to find us

Nestled in Oxford’s Castle Quarter, Oxford Castle & Prison is a short walk from Oxford Station.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this offer, we ask all residents to bring proof of residency, this can include

  • Photo ID with address
  • Utility Bill or authorised letter with a name and address on it.
  • The experience lasts around 1-1.5 hours.
  • Under 5’s go free with a paying adult. Due to the steep steps, those under 5’s cannot climb St. George’s Tower.
